City Pool to Open June 29, Season Shortened

Swimmers and water enthusiasts will again be able to splash at Stevensville's City Pool starting Monday, June 29th. The long-awaited opening will kick off Monday morning with the first swim lesson session of the season, with open swim available to the general public in the afternoon. Modifications in programming and capacity have been made in response to directives from local and state public health officials to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Those changes will included more frequent sanitation and fewer students enrolled in each session of group swimming lessons. The number of non-swimmers admitted during lessons will be limited too, as each student will only be permitted one parent or caretaker to enter the facility during their lesson.

"Our number one priority is to keep everyone safe while enjoying our recreation opportunities," said Parks & Recreation Director Bobby Sonsteng. "Our operation will look different this season as we work toward that goal, and we really appreciate everyone's understanding and cooperation as we adapt."

While swimmers can begin their water recreation on Monday, officials have already scheduled the last day the pool will be open for July 25th. The pool will close a month early this year to make significant repairs to the facility. Upon filling the pool after the spring rehab, a leak was discovered that may become costly if not addressed. Over the next month, officials will be developing short and long range plans to address swimming pool repairs and what the future of the facility looks like. A needs assessment will likely be conducted to hear input from the community as plans are developed.

Due to the shortened season, the following changes will go into effect:

  • Season passes will not be sold for the 2020 season, please pay per session.
  • 2 sessions of group swimming lessons will be held.
  • Private lessons are being held by appointment.
  • Student passes (single day-use) will be honored through Saturday, July 25th.
