MAYOR DEWEY URGES CAUTION DURING WINTER STORM - BLIZZARD WARNINGS

(Stevensville Montana, February 25, 2019) – Mayor Brandon E. Dewey is urging residents to be prepared for heavy snow, strong winds and hazardous travel as the Bitterroot Valley will be under a Blizzard Warning until 9:00 p.m. Monday night and a Winter Storm Warning until 11 a.m. tomorrow.

Blizzard conditions, combined with snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour will continue to produce hazardous driving conditions with limited visibilities. Falling temperatures and wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.

“We are working hard to keep streets clear and drivable and asking citizens to be prepared, particularly when it comes to this evening’s commute,” Mayor Dewey said. “I am asking commuters to be patient and considerate and to leave themselves plenty of time to get to their destination. By working together, we can get through this storm safely.”

Mayor Dewey is asking residents to consider the following:

Monitor www.townofstevensville.com and the Town of Stevensville-Municipal Government Facebook page for updates on street conditions.

  • Observe the parking restrictions in place in certain areas throughout Town – please see the Town’s webpage for more information. Plows can do their job faster or more effectively if residents give them plenty of space.
  • Monitor the news for travel advisories, closures and cancellations.
  • Discuss weather related policies and procedures with your employer.
  • Keep the sidewalk clear in front of your property. Contact the Town if you need assistance.
  • Keep fire hydrants clear of snow.
  • Bring pets inside.
  • Make sure your vehicle has enough gas.

Consider having a communication plan to check on for families and neighbors, especially the sick and elderly.

Please do not shovel or plow snow from private property onto sidewalks or roads.  In addition to being prohibited by code, it creates additional snow removal problems and safety issues for our plow operators and citizens.
