The Town of Stevensville today [Friday] announced its construction schedule for the next year with welcome additions to infrastructure initiatives that will continue to help the community build.

Mayor Brandon Dewey says it includes about $150,000 worth of infrastructure work that was already planned. He says it is adding an additional $350,000 in street improvements and sewer infrastructure.

“Our community and citizens have asked for an array of improvements to their town. Because of the financial responsibility and foresight of our organization, we’re in a position to deliver results they have long waited for." Dewey said. “The projects we have laid out will increase the quality of life for our residents and open the door for future projects that will bring new opportunity to Stevensville.”

Work will begin in November on one of the planned street projects, on East 3rd Street. Town officials say that this project will include resurfacing the deteriorating roadway, and complete sidewalk repairs that are needed. This will complete the sidewalks along the North side of entire street. Crews will then move towards completing new improvements at the intersection of East 5th Street and Park Avenue to enhance pedestrian safety and address parking issues.

Part of the future construction schedule includes improvements along the route of East 6th Street between Main Street and College, used heavily by both vehicles and pedestrians. The design of those improvements will focus on sidewalks, providing a safe route for walkers who are going to and from school.

The town is also working on plans to extend the Park Avenue sewer main from the old Phillips Street south to Middle Burnt Fork Road as part of its Park Avenue Southern Community Connection plan. The plan will focus on connecting the south end of Park Avenue with the rest of the community by providing the needed sewer service to the site of the Stevensville Community Foundation’s future community center and increasing the walkability of the area.

“As chair of the Stevensville Community Center committee of the Stevensville Community Foundation, I am very enthused to see this infrastructure project get underway,” said Bob Thomas of the Stevensville Community Foundation. “It finally opens the door for us to get our project out of the ground.”

The town is also working on finalizing plans to improve sidewalks downtown on West 3rd Street. It will add lighting and curbing on the north side of the street. All of the projects announced on Friday are in addition to the water system improvements and leak repairs that are underway.
