Snow Clean-up Underway in Stevensville

PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Release:  February 26, 2019

(Stevensville, Montana) As our major winter storm begins to wind down, Town of Stevensville crews continue to work diligently on snow removal and clean-up efforts. The storm created severe driving conditions and required the full activation of the Town’s Snow and Ice Removal Plan.  “Given the intensity of the storm, the Town has done a good job addressing immediate snow removal needs.  Despite receiving 18 to 26 inches over the past two days, no major incidents occurred and the main roads have been generally passable” said Mayor Brandon Dewey.

Over the past three days, crews have plowed and sanded the equivalent of over 200 lane miles of Town roads. Mayor Dewey praised the Public Works department, “Our crews worked long and hard to stay on top of the snow. Crews will continue to clear as much snow as possible including removal of snow berms so we can make room for the next storm systems expected to drop another 6 inches of new snow throughout the rest of the week.  “We want to make sure there is enough room for the additional snow accumulations,” said Mayor Dewey.

“We are very thankful that our residents heeded the advice to postpone travel and stay home. Our top concern is for the safety of our residents, if you do not have to travel, please continue to avoid it and remember to check on your neighbors, especially the elderly.  We have a lot of snow and everyone is trying to dig out, please be patient, while our immediate priority is to ensure the roads are passable for emergency personnel.

Residents can expedite the plowing and snow removal process by taking the following steps:

Residents should not park their cars in the roadway (Park Avenue, Chilcot, and Main Street) to help snow removal equipment to navigate the streets.
Property owners should not shovel or toss snow into the street, as they’re clearing their sidewalks. Please note that the Town has suspended sidewalk enforcement for further notice.
