Seasonal Town Snow Removal Reminders

person shoveling snow

Winters in Stevensville have no shortage of cold weather and snow fall events. To combat snowfall and ice build-up, Public Works crews work diligently to plow Town streets and clear sidewalks. Please take some time to review the following Town snow removal reminders to keep all safe throughout the winter season:

Sidewalks

Citizens and businesses must keep their sidewalks shoveled. The Town is asking citizens to clear a 36-inch path to allow pedestrians to travel effectively. Citizens are asked to clear a pedestrian path even if no sidewalk exists. Additional enforcement of sidewalk snow removal may occur if citizens fail to keep areas clear and may result in charges.

  • Sidewalks must be cleared by 9:00am in commercial zones
  • Residential zones must clear their sidewalks clear within 24-hours of snowfall.

Parking

Citizens are asked to move recreational vehicles, including campers and boats, off the street in residential areas for the entire snow season, which runs from Nov. 15 to March 15. Downtown on snowy days, on-street parking will be prohibited between midnight and 6 a.m. Cars may be towed downtown if not moved.

Plowing

When it snows, even if it’s just an inch or two, crews will plow all the streets, including residential streets. Crews will complete residential work primarily during regular day shifts Monday through Friday. Emergency Routes and Arterials are plowed first, residential areas. Vehicle routes around schools and medical facilities also have been prioritized. During a larger snowfall of four inches or more, crews will move to 24/7 operations to complete and maintain a full-City plow.

  • Driveways are often impacted by snow removal. Please remember to shovel snow from your driveway to the “downstream side” to help reduce the snow pushed across your driveway.
  • Please help keep fire hydrants clear of snow.
  • Residents and private snow plow companies are prohibited from piling snow on adjacent properties or within the city's right-of-way and streets.

You find it, we fix it! Whether it’s a broken sign, malfunctioning traffic signal, abandoned vehicle, pothole, or any other issue on the street, sidewalk, or other transportation right of way – let us know about it and we’ll help fix it.

For any issue, it’s helpful to know the address or cross-streets, and pictures are great too.

Do you avoid that same pothole every morning? That's where the Street Department steps in. The department provides maintenance and repair of The Town of Stevensville's streets and alleys. Our specific function includes street resurfacing, the repair and construction of sidewalks and curbs, snow removal and street sweeping.

Snow Plow

We all know how unpredictable the winter weather can be here in Stevensville. The Streets & Transportation Division has developed a Snow Removal Plan to establish how each street is plowed. The Priorities are shown on the Snow Plowing Map found in the links below.
