Town offers free option to get rid of Christmas trees

Pile of Christmas Tree's

The holidays are finally here, and it won't be long until that fine-smelling fir in the living room is a dried-up fire hazard. So, the Town wants to remind you of your options to get rid of your tree once the season is over.

First: The Town's Public Works Department offers free tree drop-off for residents Monday, Dec. 30, through Friday, Jan. 17. Once the decorations are removed, residents can place their fresh-cut trees at the designated drop off zone in Lewis & Clark Park, 400 W. Second Street.

The Town will accept trees up to 6 feet in height; if they're taller than that, cut them in half. Loose branches may be bundled next to the tree not to exceed six feet. Trees collected will be moved to the Town's organic waste dump. For information, call the Department of Public Works at 406.777.5271.

Second: City and County residents can take their undecorated, unflocked trees for disposal to the:

  • Victor Transfer Station, 2200 Meridian Rd, Victor - 406.642.3375
  • Garden City Compost, 1125 Clark Fork Lane, Missoula - 406.552.6619

Again, trees taller than 6 feet should be cut in half. Trees taken to these facilities are subject to charges at the facility.

Residents also should watch for opportunities to dispose of trees and help a good cause. Scouts, school groups, and other charitable organizations will dispose of trees for a donation.

Remember, the Town won't pick up tree's via curbside service, and typical yard debris will not be accepted at the tree drop off site.
